4th of July fun

We had such a fun holiday with the family. We drove to Navajo lake were Grandma and Grandpa were camping. Chris fished with the boys. They didn't catch anything, but were so happy to be sitting at the nice cool lake with DAD. Grandma BBQ some great hamburgers and hotdogs and then we were off to explore. First went went to the ice cave. I have never seen anything like this cave before, you go from hot to so cold you can see your breath, the entire floor is covered in ice and you can still see the sun shining outside - amazing. Next we were off the hike to the falls. This is something my Dad has always enjoyed, he even broke the rules (trail was closed -which is SO not like him) to take us on this gorgeous hike, pointing out all the tree's and bushes along the way. We had a quiz on the way back - Sarah won :) The adventure continued to another cave (I can't remember the name of the cave). When you first enter the cave it is very large inside, but completely dark. Jerin and I made it about 30 steps in when he decided he didn't like how cold and dark it was getting. Cayson on the other hand made it all the way through with his dad. Towards the end, the cave gets very narrow and you have to get down on your hands and knees and crawl out a very small opening. Those of you that know Chris will be surprised to know he DID it. See the picture of Cayson next to the opening at the end.
We ended our adventure driving to Brian Head and watching the fireworks. They were the best fireworks I have seen. They were so close and the people and atmosphere made it feel like such a special event. I think that is now going to be our 4th of July tradition.

Reward Day

Jerin earned another reward day and choose to go the the Dinosaur Museum.

The St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm is home to exceptionally well-preserved dinosaur tracks, some displaying skin impressions. These tracks, along with hundreds of fossil fish, plants, rare dinosaur remains, invertebrates traces and important sedimentary structures, show evidence that this site was produced along the western edge of a large, Early Jurassic (age between 195-198 million years ago) freshwater lake named Lake Dixie.

Other discoveries that make the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm unique include the largest and best preserved collection of dinosaur swim tracks, a rare sitting impression of a large meat-eating dinosaur, and the unusual association of tracks, traces and actual bones found in close proximity to each other.









After the museum, we had ice cream cones at the park!




I have to say, I enjoy the reward day. It is a great reward/discipline technique through out the week, and a fun memory building time for all of us.

Camping in January

It has been harder than I had thought to keep up a blog. I have never been much of a diary person, so I thought this would be a good way to have things about my children in a written format. However, you have to spend the time writing it to be able to have this "diary".

I think my problems is, I've never been much of a story teller, so it's hard for me to write the stories out and make them sound presentable. So I've decided I'm not going to try to make it perfect, I'm just going to start typing it out, sorry English teachers.

Oh NO!! My perfect child has committed a crime.......

Jerin came home from school the other day with a prized possession - a little red dinosaur. I asked were he had got the toy and he said it was from a friend at school. I didn't think to much more of it because this friend was the "sunshine of the week" at school. A little later in the week, while getting the boys in the tub, Jerin reached in the pocket of his school pants and pulled out a few more of these dinosaurs. At that point I knew they were not given to him - he had taken them from the school. I asked him if they came from his class room.

I was a little relieved he did not lie, but now I had to have the talk about taking things that do not belong to you. I went searching for my parent handbook on how to handle this situation.... oh wait - there is NO parent hand book. How do you explain to a 5 year old - actions and consequences. I knew he already knew what he did was wrong, because he did lie about were the toy came from and he was sneaking them out by putting them in his pocket.

The next day, we left for school early. I took the other two kids to a friends house so I could walk Jerin in and have him talk to the teacher. I think I was WAY more nervous about having to face his teacher than he was. Of course Jerin did not want to tell his teacher what he had done, but I was very proud when he sat down next to her, looked her in the eyes and said sorry he took the toys from her classroom. She was so great to talk to him, she made him understand why it was wrong, but without making him feel like he was a bad kid - I was very very impressed - what a GREAT teacher!! I want her handbook :)
